Description of Threads of the North Exhibition

Northland’s Creative Fibre members invite you to come and experience an inspiring exhibition of authentic hand spun, raranga, woven, felted, crochet and knitted creations made by artisans in your community.

As well as viewing the wide range of exhibits on show there will be three renowned guest exhibitors present over the weekend showcasing their talents in weaving, kakahu cloaks and felting.

•         Agnes Hauptli weaves exhibition and experimental pieces, scarves, shawls, household items, baby blankets and baby wraps on a variety of floor looms. She loves to work with fine silk threads and create pieces that display complex patterns and that integrate beautiful iridescence

•         Tirimata Murphy weaves traditional Kakahu cloaks for people and events with a contemporary twist

•         Sandra Dunn is a talented textile artist who creates delightful felted creations and art works, filled with colour, texture, charm, and playful detail

There will be merchants selling wool, fibre and fibre related products and some great raffles!

Exhibits that are for sale can be purchased with cash or online bank transactions over all 3 days (Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 2026).

Whether you enjoy creating your own handcrafts or simply appreciate beautiful art and fabric creations, our exhibition will have something to interest you.

Come and meet some local creators, discover the world of textiles and get inspired for your next project.

See you there!
