PD Power Hour: Parkinson's Exercise at Active+ Albany
Are you living with Parkinson's Disease and looking for a way to stay active?
PD Power Hour is a neuro protective, evidence-based group exercise class for not only managing, but improving and slowing down the effects of Parkinsons Disease. Run by a PD Warrior trained Exercise Physiologist, the class incorporates both physical and cognitive activities for people in the early stages of the disease. Utilising the 7 key principles of exercise for Parkinsons, including large amplitude and power work, as well as creativity and dual task training, you will exercise in a group with maximal 6 pepople.
This program suits those with mild to moderate symptoms, such as limited mobility, freezing, reduced strength and balance. It aims at improving mobility, reducing stiffness, enhancing balance and coordination, increasing strength, and providing cognitive challenges. The class also offers a chance to connect with others facing similar challenges.
Prior to class attendance, a Physiotherapist with expertise in neurological diseases will complete an assessment of your strength, balance and functional capabilities. The class is delivered by a qualified health professional, who will then be able to tailor the exercises to your abilities.
