Get Involved: Whangārei Writers Workshop

Writers gather each Friday morning to share their latest pieces and receive thoughtful feedback from fellow participants. Sessions focus on reading work aloud, discussing strengths, and offering constructive suggestions in a relaxed setting. No one is required to present material every week, making it easy to attend as an observer while building confidence. The group suits adults at any stage of their writing journey, whether working on short stories, poetry, novels or personal essays.

This weekly Friday session runs at the Kamo Club in Te Kamo. New attendees can visit up to three times before deciding on membership, allowing everyone to experience the format first-hand. The supportive atmosphere encourages steady progress through regular input from others who understand the writing process.

  • Read your writing to the group for detailed feedback
  • Listen to others share their work and learn different techniques
  • Discuss structure, style and ideas in a constructive way
  • Build connections with local writers who attend regularly
  • Develop your craft without pressure to contribute every session
  • Receive practical suggestions you can apply to future projects
