Description of Strong & Steady | Senior Balance Class | Huntly

🦵 Strong & Steady is a gentle strength and balance class designed specifically for seniors with limited mobility or those using walking aids. This supportive Level 1 class starts with seated exercises, progresses to standing activities (using chairs for support if needed), and finishes with a seated cooldown and stretching.

Each 45-minute session helps build muscle strength and improve balance in a gradual, manageable way. Many participants report greater confidence, increased strength, and improved ability to perform daily activities.

Classes are held at St Paul's Hall - Huntly Friendship House, 55 William Street, Huntly. The entry fee is just $3, and your first class is free! 💪

Benefits of Strength & Balance Classes for Seniors

Regular participation in gentle strength and balance exercises offers numerous advantages for older adults: 🌟

  • Fall Prevention: Improving balance and coordination significantly reduces fall risk, a major concern for seniors.
  • Increased Independence: Building strength helps maintain the ability to perform everyday tasks without assistance.
  • Better Mobility: Gentle movement exercises keep joints flexible and reduce stiffness.
  • Enhanced Confidence: As physical abilities improve, participants often experience greater confidence in their movements.
  • Social Connection: Group classes provide valuable opportunities for social interaction, reducing isolation.

These classes are specially designed to accommodate those with limited mobility. The seated start ensures everyone can participate safely, while the standing exercises (with chair support available) gradually build functional strength needed for daily activities.

The supportive, non-competitive environment makes this class perfect for those who might feel anxious about exercise or have been inactive for some time. Each participant is encouraged to work at their own pace, making modifications as needed. 🌼

What to wear: Comfortable clothing that allows movement and snug-fitting, supportive shoes with non-slip soles. All equipment is provided, so just bring yourself and a water bottle!
