Benefits of Strength and Balance Training for Kiwis
Strength and balance training is essential for Kiwis of all ages, offering significant health benefits that extend well beyond the gym. Regular participation in classes like this can transform your physical capabilities and overall wellbeing.
Why strength and balance exercises matter:
- Improved bone health: Resistance training helps increase bone density, crucial for preventing osteoporosis and fractures as we age.
- Better mobility: These exercises help maintain and improve your ability to move freely in daily activities, from gardening to walking up Mt Eden.
- Fall prevention: Balance training significantly reduces fall risk β particularly important for older adults.
- Enhanced cardiovascular health: Even moderate strength training improves heart health and circulation.
- Increased metabolism: Building muscle mass helps your body burn more calories, even when resting.
The resistance exercises in this class may include bodyweight movements, resistance bands, or light weights β all adapted to your personal fitness level. You'll learn proper form and technique in a supportive environment, making this an ideal class for those new to strength training.
Balance exercises often incorporate movements that challenge your stability in controlled ways, gradually improving your body's proprioception (awareness of position) and core strength. These skills transfer directly to everyday activities, helping you move with greater confidence and reducing injury risk.
