Benefits of Balance & Strength Training for Older Adults 🌟

Regular balance and strength training offers numerous benefits for seniors, making programmes like Steady As You Go essential for maintaining independence and quality of life.

Fall Prevention: Falls are a leading cause of injury among older Kiwis. Strengthening key muscle groups and improving balance significantly reduces fall risk, helping you stay safe and confident in daily activities.

  • Improves coordination and stability when walking on uneven surfaces
  • Strengthens leg muscles crucial for catching yourself when off-balance
  • Enhances reaction time to prevent falls before they happen

Increased Independence: Better strength and balance mean greater confidence in everyday activities like shopping, gardening, and enjoying time with whānau.

Social Connection: Group exercise classes provide valuable social interaction, reducing isolation and improving mental wellbeing. Many participants form lasting friendships in our supportive community environment.

Evidence-Based Approach: Our programme is based on the proven Otago Exercise Programme, developed right here in New Zealand and recognised worldwide for its effectiveness in fall prevention.

Classes initially guided by Age Concern trained instructors eventually transition to a peer-led model with audio guidance, fostering community leadership and sustainability.

Join us and take a positive step toward maintaining your independence, strength, and confidence in a friendly, supportive environment. 🌿
