Benefits of Balance Training for Older Kiwis 👵👴

Balance and strength exercises are vital for maintaining independence and wellbeing as we age. The Steady As You Go© programme offers a supportive community environment where older adults can improve their physical health while making social connections.

Regular participation in balance training programmes like this can help:

  • Reduce fall risk - Falls are a major concern for older adults, and balance training is one of the most effective preventative measures
  • Maintain independence - Better strength and balance means more confidence in daily activities
  • Improve posture - Gentle exercises help correct posture issues that develop over time
  • Build confidence - Moving in a safe, supported environment helps overcome fear of movement
  • Create social connections - Meet other like-minded people in your community

This class is specifically designed for those with limited mobility (Level 1), making it accessible for seniors who use walking aids or feel unsure about physical activity. The exercises are gentle and progressively challenging, allowing you to work at your own pace while steadily improving.

Age Concern Auckland runs this evidence-based programme during school terms, bringing together older adults in a friendly, no-pressure atmosphere. No special equipment or prior experience is needed - just wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear.
