Fall Prevention Exercise for Seniors in New Zealand 🌿

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older Kiwis, with approximately one in three people over 65 experiencing a fall each year. The Steady As You Go programme was developed specifically for New Zealand seniors to address this issue through targeted exercise.

These classes follow ACC-approved methods and focus on:

  • Balance improvement - Reducing the risk of falls through stability exercises
  • Strength building - Particularly in the lower body to maintain independence
  • Social connection - Creating a supportive community of peers
  • Confidence boosting - Helping participants feel more secure in daily activities

The peer-led approach makes SAYGO uniquely effective, as class leaders understand the challenges faced by participants. After a 10-week training period with Age Concern, these leaders facilitate ongoing classes with input from all attendees.

Research shows regular participation in balance and strength exercises can reduce fall risk by up to 30%. Beyond physical benefits, many participants report improved mood, better sleep, and increased confidence in everyday activities.

Join our welcoming Picton group to take a proactive step toward maintaining your independence and wellbeing. 🌟
