Why Falls Prevention Exercise Is Vital for Older Kiwis 🏃♀️ 🧠 💪
Falls prevention programmes like Aligned To Go are essential for maintaining independence and quality of life as we age. These specialised classes focus on improving balance, strength, and mobility—three critical factors in reducing fall risk among older adults.
The social component of community-based exercise is equally important. Regular attendance not only builds physical resilience but also provides valuable social connections that contribute to overall wellbeing and mental health.
Aligned To Go's structured approach allows participants to progress at their own pace. The chair-based components make it accessible for those with mobility concerns, while standing exercises gradually build confidence and capability.
Incorporating diverse movement patterns—including posture work, flexibility training, and eye movements—helps address the multiple factors that contribute to falls risk. This comprehensive approach has been shown to significantly reduce fall incidents in community-dwelling older adults.
By joining an Age Concern falls prevention programme, you're taking a proactive step toward maintaining your independence and enjoying an active lifestyle for years to come. The supportive group environment makes exercise enjoyable rather than daunting, and the social tea afterwards strengthens community bonds.
