Understanding Gentle Yoga for Seniors and Beginners
Gentle yoga is a modified approach to traditional yoga that emphasises accessibility and comfort while maintaining the practice's core benefits. This style is particularly beneficial for seniors, those recovering from injury, or anyone preferring a slower-paced, nurturing approach to movement.
Hatha yoga, the style practiced in these sessions, is one of the most traditional forms of yoga. It focuses on basic postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama), making it ideal for beginners and those seeking a gentle practice. The inclusion of yoga nidra, a guided meditation technique, helps reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.
Regular gentle yoga practice can offer numerous benefits:
- Improved flexibility and joint mobility
- Better balance and stability
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Enhanced breathing awareness
- Increased body awareness and mindfulness
- Greater overall wellbeing
The supportive environment of a guided class ensures proper alignment and modification options, making it safe and enjoyable for participants of all abilities and fitness levels.
