Benefits of Strength and Balance Training for Older Adults
Regular strength and balance training is vital for maintaining independence and quality of life as we age. These exercises help prevent falls, which are a major cause of injury among older Kiwis.
Participating in community-based fitness classes like this offers multiple benefits:
- Physical benefits: Improved muscle strength, better balance, increased bone density, enhanced joint mobility, and better cardiovascular health
- Mental wellbeing: Reduced anxiety and depression, improved cognitive function, and greater confidence in daily activities
- Social connection: Regular interaction with peers, creating supportive relationships in a fun, non-competitive environment
Classes that accommodate different ability levels ensure everyone can participate safely while still being challenged appropriately. The option to exercise seated or standing makes this accessible for those with mobility limitations.
Having an experienced instructor like Jenny means exercises are adapted to individual needs while maintaining proper technique to prevent injury. The affordable price point removes barriers to participation, making regular exercise accessible to more community members.
