Benefits of Walking & Balance Classes for Older Kiwis

Regular walking and balance exercises are vital for maintaining independence and quality of life as we age. These gentle, low-impact workouts provide numerous health benefits while being accessible to people with varying mobility levels.

🌟 Joining a structured walking and balance programme can help:

  • Reduce fall risk by improving balance, coordination and stability
  • Maintain independence by preserving functional movement patterns
  • Boost cardiovascular health through appropriate intensity aerobic activity
  • Improve mental wellbeing through social connection and achievement
  • Increase confidence in daily movements and activities

Walking to music adds an enjoyable element that can improve rhythm, coordination and make exercise feel less like a chore. The tracking component provides motivation as you can see your progress over time.

Balance exercises are particularly important for older adults as they directly address one of the most common concerns - falls prevention. Even small improvements in balance can significantly reduce fall risk and increase confidence in everyday activities.

St Christopher's Community Eldercare provides a safe, supportive environment where participants can work at their own pace while being guided by qualified instructors who understand the unique needs of older adults. 💪
