Benefits of Balance & Strength Training for Seniors
Balance and strength exercises are crucial for maintaining independence and preventing falls as we age. The Steady As You Go programme is based on the internationally recognised Otago Exercise Programme, which has been scientifically proven to reduce falls and improve quality of life.
Regular participation in these classes can help:
- Improve stability and coordination
- Strengthen muscles essential for everyday activities
- Boost confidence in movement
- Enhance posture and flexibility
- Reduce the risk of falls and injuries
- Create social connections in your community
The exercises are gentle yet effective, focusing on practical movements that translate to daily activities. Participants often report feeling more confident navigating everyday challenges like steps, uneven surfaces, and household tasks.
The social aspect of these classes is equally valuable, with many participants forming lasting friendships while working together to improve their health. The supportive group environment provides motivation and accountability that's difficult to maintain when exercising alone.
Each session is structured to ensure everyone can participate at their own pace, with modifications available for different ability levels. You'll never be pushed beyond your comfort zone, but you'll be gently encouraged to progress at a rate that's right for you.
