This supportive Level 1 class takes place at the AC Baths in Taupō and is perfect for participants with limited mobility or those who may use walking aids.

Benefits of Aqua Therapy for Parkinson's Disease 💦

Aqua-based exercise provides unique advantages for people with Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions. The water's natural resistance helps strengthen muscles without putting stress on joints, while its buoyancy provides extra support and reduces the fear of falling.

Research shows that regular participation in water therapy can help:

  • Improve balance and reduce fall risk
  • Enhance flexibility and range of motion
  • Build core strength and stability
  • Boost cardiovascular fitness
  • Reduce stiffness and tremors
  • Increase confidence in movement

The social aspect of group classes like Frog Squad also provides valuable mental stimulation and community connection, which is particularly beneficial for those with Parkinson's. The supportive atmosphere makes exercise enjoyable rather than intimidating.

What makes aqua therapy particularly suitable for those with limited mobility is that exercises can be easily modified to accommodate different ability levels. The water creates a forgiving environment where participants can work at their own pace while still feeling part of the group.

Water temperature at the AC Baths is maintained at a comfortable level to prevent overheating while ensuring muscles stay warm and relaxed throughout the session. This creates ideal conditions for gentle yet effective movement therapy. 🏊‍♀️
