Benefits of Balance & Strength Training for Seniors 💪

Regular balance and strength exercises are vital for maintaining independence and preventing falls as we age. Our Steady As You Go class follows the proven Otago Exercise Programme, initially facilitated by an Age Concern trained instructor before transitioning to a peer-led model.

What makes our class special:

  • Gradual progression - Exercises begin seated, gradually moving to standing with support as needed
  • Personalized approach - Optional ankle weights can be added as strength and confidence improve
  • Social connection - Build friendships while improving your physical wellbeing
  • Evidence-based - Programme designed specifically to target fall prevention

During each session you'll experience:

  • Gentle warm-ups to prepare muscles and joints
  • Targeted exercises for legs, arms and core to improve stability
  • Walking exercises to enhance coordination
  • Relaxing cooldown to finish

Simply wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. No special equipment or previous experience required - just a willingness to move and improve your health in a supportive Kiwi community!
