What to Expect at Choir Rehearsal

Singers gather for a focused evening of vocal work with the Pohutukawa Singers. The session opens with warm-ups that prepare the voice across all four SATB parts, then moves into detailed rehearsal of pieces drawn from madrigals, motets, folk songs, jazz standards and contemporary New Zealand works.

Participants work on blend, dynamics and phrasing under the guidance of the conductor. The atmosphere suits adults who enjoy singing in a mixed-voice choir without needing an audition. Repertoire is refreshed regularly to keep the music varied and engaging ahead of the two annual concerts.

The group meets every Monday evening. New singers are welcome to attend and join the rehearsal on a casual basis.

Location and Directions

Rehearsals take place at Pinehurst School in Albany. The school hall offers a spacious, well-lit room with good acoustics for group singing. Ample on-site parking makes arrival straightforward for those driving from surrounding Albany streets.
