Description of Chair Yoga

A gentle yoga class sitting & standing with support of a chair. Ideal for people with difficulty getting on & off the floor. Yoga helps improve flexibility, posture, strength & balance. Includes breathing & relaxation for overall wellbeing. Difficulty Levels: Level 1, Level 2 Name: Kerry Brown Phone: 021 1541474 Email: inharmonyyoganz@gmail.com

Making yoga accessible

This mindful movement session based around a chair is ideal for older adults and makes yoga more accessible for anyone who can’t get on the floor. We are a friendly group and warmly welcome any new people. The practice of yoga can help improve flexibility, posture, strength & balance, also stress reduction & overall wellbeing.

Class leader Kerry has a background as a dietitian and is a qualified yoga teacher with years’ experience teaching many styles. Kerry says “My yoga style is very much breath-focused with an emphasis on slow movement connected to the breath. I believe yoga benefits the mind, body, and soul.”

What to expect

We settle into class sitting down with breathing & movement exercises, then stand for more poses for strength & balance standing beside the chair. Class ends with stretches and relaxation exercises seated in the chair. We encourage you to go at your own pace, sitting or standing as suits each day.

Class runs for 50 minutes.

Who can join

Class is open to anyone who wants to try yoga with the support of a chair. No experience necessary. Please make contact before your first class.

What to bring and wear

Wear clothes you are comfortable moving in. No equipment or mats needed. Bare foot is great if that feels ok, otherwise grippy socks or comfy flat shoes.

If you have any other questions please feel free to get in touch using the contact details at the top of the page.
