Description of August Green Drinks “Let's Make a Zine & an Ojo de Dios”

We all know about magazines, but who’s heard of ‘zines’, or simple mini booklets?

And do you know what an Ojo de Dios is?

Find out what they are by coming along to August Green Drinks and making some of your own!

Zines are usually mini booklets of 8 small pages made from a A4 piece of paper, they are great for creative expression as each is unique to its creator. You can tell a story, write a poem, create a comic, write your favourite recipe with comments and sketches, describe a feeling that you’d like to share - the possibilities are endless! The great thing about zines is that you can photocopy them and make gifts for others to share or to swap. They are a wonderful low-cost, small foot-print activity that really delights both the creator and the reader!

You can get as fancy as you like and make a little booklet with a textile cover. EcoSolutions has lots of fabric and a sewing machine that will be available.

Ojo de Dios for Matariki Stars

An Ojo de Dios (Eye of God) is a traditional spiritual weaving craft created by the Huichol and Tepehuan indigenous peoples of western Mexico. Traditionally made by wrapping vibrant yarn around a wooden cross, the centre eye represents a spiritual portal to see and understand unknown things, while the four points symbolize earth, fire, air, and water.

There is an interesting parallel in Māori culture as Matariki, which is short for Ngā Mata o te Ariki, translates directly into "The Eyes of God".
