About Kororareka Marae (Haratu)
Toi Tū is a seasonal art exhibition held within the historic Kororāreka Marae (Haratu), in the heart of Russell. Bringing together Māori and non-Māori artists from across Te Tai Tokerau, the exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience contemporary art within a living marae environment.
Carefully curated to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere, Toi Tū invites visitors to slow down, explore, and connect — with art, with place, and with the stories of the region. The works span a range of media and themes, reflecting identity, whenua, memory, and belonging, while honouring both cultural heritage and modern creative expression.
Open daily throughout the summer season, Toi Tū is an accessible and enriching cultural experience for locals and visitors alike, just a short walk from the Paihia–Russell ferry terminal.
Open 7 days a week, December to February.
