Description of World Drumming Festival

Experience the power of rhythm as a dynamic group of visiting Sri Lankan drummers and dancers takes the stage alongside Christchurch’s vibrant cultural communities for a vibrant celebration of drumming and culture.

From the powerful beats of Dekaworwor West African Drumming and Dzidzor – Ghana, to the rich traditions of Christchurch Zhong Hua Chinese Society, the island rhythms of Tamanu II Performing Arts – Cook Islands, the expressive Persian instruments and music of Simurgh Music, the precision of Takumi Japanese Drumming Group, and the high-energy performances of Mundi Dancers. This is where the world comes together through rhythm.

Presented by the New Zealand Sri Lanka Cultural Foundation, in partnership with the Christchurch Multicultural Council and the University of Canterbury – School of Music.
