Get Involved: weekly training
The Aotearoa Kendo Club warmly welcomes newcomers to its weekly training sessions, offering a supportive environment where members of various ages can engage in the disciplined art of kendo. Founded in October 2000 by instructor Dong-Ho Choo (5th dan) in Christchurch, the club has grown steadily, now boasting more than 10 dedicated members training regularly. In the years following its establishment, chief instructor Jong-Jae Park (6th dan) and assistant instructor Hyun-Jin Park (6th dan) joined, enhancing the club's expertise. Affiliated with the Korean Kumdo Association as an overseas branch in August 2002 and later with the New Zealand Kendo Federation in March 2023, the club embodies a rich heritage, with its name 白雲館 translating to Aotearoa, meaning "white cloud" in reference to New Zealand.

It's open to age groups including 13-17, 18-29, 30-49, and 50-64, making it suitable for a broad range of participants seeking to build physical fitness, mental focus, and camaraderie. Entry fees are not fixed—please check with the club directly for details, as they may vary or be waived for newcomers. No prior experience is required, though participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring enthusiasm; the club provides guidance on any specific gear needed.
