Supporting Our Kaumātua and Elderly Community in Auckland
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an important opportunity for Kiwis to acknowledge the significant contributions our seniors make to our society while raising awareness about elder abuse and neglect.
Elder abuse is a serious issue affecting many older New Zealanders. It can take various forms including financial exploitation, emotional abuse, physical harm, or neglect. Community events like this one play a vital role in:
- Building awareness about the signs of elder abuse
- Connecting seniors with support services and resources
- Celebrating the mana and wisdom of our kaumātua and older citizens
- Strengthening community bonds across generations
By attending this event, you're helping to create a more age-friendly Auckland where our seniors feel valued, respected and protected. The collaborative effort of over 100 community groups demonstrates the power of coming together to address important social issues while celebrating the treasured place our elders hold in our whānau and communities.
Whether you're a senior yourself, a caregiver, family member, or simply someone who cares about the wellbeing of older people, this event offers a meaningful way to connect with others who share your concern and commitment to ensuring our elders are treated with dignity and respect.
