Description of The Tūī and the Kahikatea

Presented by Aroha and Chamber Music NZ, this event features a powerful collaboration of music and poetry. The renowned New Zealand musicians—Peter Scholes (clarinet), Simeon Broom (violin), James Tennant (cello), and Katherine Austin (piano)—perform Messiaen’s iconic eight-movement quartet, composed in a WWII prisoner of war camp. Accompanied by poet Faumuina Felolini Maria Tafuna’i, whose evocative Pacifica poetry addresses the climate change crisis, the performance blends transcendent music and poignant words, reflecting on the core of human existence and the courage needed in the face of today’s global challenges. Community serves card holder and 18 and under pricing available from the Turner Centre Box Office only
