Why Fall Prevention Exercise is Essential for Kiwi Seniors
Falls remain one of the leading causes of injury among older New Zealanders, with one in three people over 65 experiencing a fall each year. The good news? Most falls are preventable with the right exercises and awareness.
SAYGo classes focus on strengthening all muscle groups involved in maintaining proper posture and balance. Participants report not only physical improvements but increased confidence in daily activities.
- Simple yet effective: Activities are designed to be accessible while targeting specific muscle groups essential for stability
- Evidence-based: SAYGo programmes have demonstrated measurable improvements in participants' balance and strength
- Supportive environment: Exercise alongside others with similar goals in a no-pressure atmosphere
- Beyond physical benefits: Enjoy social connections and learn practical strategies to reduce fall risks at home
The programme includes seated exercises for those who need them, making it accessible for various mobility levels. Each class builds progressively on skills, helping participants gain confidence and ability over time.
With regular attendance, many participants notice improvements in their ability to perform everyday tasks, from getting in and out of chairs to walking confidently on uneven surfaces. The class emphasizes practical movements that translate directly to daily life activities.
