Benefits of Senior Fitness Classes for Older Adults

Regular exercise is vital for maintaining health and independence as we age. SeniorFit+ classes are specifically designed to address the unique fitness needs of older adults while providing a social and supportive environment.

Participating in structured fitness classes like SeniorFit+ offers numerous benefits:

  • Improved strength and balance: Resistance training helps maintain muscle mass, which naturally decreases with age. Better strength and balance reduce the risk of falls, a common concern for older adults.
  • Enhanced cardiovascular health: The cardio components help maintain heart health, lower blood pressure, and improve circulation.
  • Increased flexibility and mobility: Regular movement helps maintain joint function and range of motion, making everyday activities easier.
  • Mental wellbeing: Exercise releases endorphins that boost mood and can help reduce anxiety and depression. The social aspect of group classes also combats isolation.
  • Cognitive function: Physical activity has been linked to better brain health and may help slow cognitive decline.

The Level 2 difficulty of SeniorFit+ makes it ideal for those who have maintained a reasonable level of fitness but want the safety of an age-appropriate class. The exercises are challenging enough to promote fitness gains while being modified to suit older bodies.

The classes' format of combining resistance and cardio training creates a comprehensive workout that addresses multiple aspects of fitness in a single session. Resistance work helps maintain bone density and muscle mass, while cardio components support heart health and stamina.

By attending these classes twice weekly, participants can establish a consistent exercise routine—a key factor in maintaining long-term fitness. The affordable pricing options, including the discounted 10-class concession, make it accessible for regular attendance.

Howick Leisure Centre provides a safe, supportive environment for these classes, with experienced instructors who understand the specific needs and considerations of older adults. No registration is required, making it easy to get started or return after a break.
