Why Balance Training Matters for Older Kiwis 🇳🇿
Falls are a significant health concern for older New Zealanders, with one in three people over 65 experiencing a fall each year. Regular balance and strength training can reduce fall risk by up to 30%, helping seniors maintain independence and confidence in daily activities.
The peer-led approach of SAYGO classes creates a supportive community environment where participants encourage each other. After initial training with Age Concern, class leaders work collaboratively with participants to create a positive, inclusive atmosphere.
Research shows that even small improvements in balance and strength can make a significant difference in fall prevention. These classes focus on functional movements that directly translate to everyday activities like getting out of chairs, climbing stairs, and walking confidently on uneven surfaces.
Many participants report not just physical benefits but also mental wellbeing improvements through social connection and the satisfaction of maintaining an active lifestyle. Join our SAYGO community at the Marlborough Community Centre and take a positive step toward better balance and strength. 💪
