How Exercise Benefits People with Parkinson's Disease 💪

Exercise is increasingly recognised as a vital component in managing Parkinson's disease symptoms and potentially slowing disease progression. Our Play for Parkinson's class offers numerous benefits:

  • Improved Motor Function: Regular physical activity helps maintain and sometimes improve mobility, reducing the risk of falls and improving confidence in everyday movements.
  • Enhanced Neuroplasticity: Exercise stimulates the brain's ability to form new neural connections, potentially compensating for those affected by Parkinson's.
  • Mood and Mental Health: Physical activity releases endorphins that can help combat depression and anxiety, common challenges for people with Parkinson's.
  • Voice and Speech: Our focus on "big voice" exercises helps address the speech difficulties many experience with Parkinson's.
  • Social Connection: Participating in group exercise creates valuable social connections and reduces isolation.

The playful approach we take makes these exercises more engaging and enjoyable, increasing motivation and adherence. By focusing on functional movements in a supportive setting, participants often experience improvements in their daily activities and overall quality of life.

Whether you're recently diagnosed or have been living with Parkinson's for years, this class offers a Kiwi-friendly, non-intimidating environment where you can move at your own pace while challenging yourself appropriately. Join us to discover how the power of play can be a serious tool in managing Parkinson's symptoms. 🌿
