Why Balance Training Is Essential for Healthy Ageing 🧠🏋️‍♀️

Balance and strength training becomes increasingly important as we age, helping maintain independence and preventing falls. Classes like "Keep on your Feet" are specifically designed to address these needs in a supportive environment.

Regular balance training offers numerous benefits:

  • Fall prevention: Improved stability reduces fall risk, a common concern for older adults
  • Maintained independence: Better balance helps with everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, and getting up from chairs
  • Increased confidence: As physical abilities improve, so does confidence in movement
  • Social connection: Group classes provide valuable social interaction, combating isolation
  • Cognitive benefits: Balance exercises engage the brain, supporting cognitive function

Balance training works best when combined with strength exercises, which help maintain muscle mass that naturally decreases with age. The "Keep on your Feet" programme thoughtfully combines these elements in a welcoming environment suitable for various fitness levels.

The social component of these classes shouldn't be underestimated. The monthly café gatherings create opportunities for participants to form friendships and support networks, contributing significantly to overall wellbeing. Many participants find the social aspects just as valuable as the physical benefits.

By joining this class at Toi Ohomai, you're not just investing in physical health but also becoming part of a supportive community committed to active, healthy ageing. 🌟
