Benefits of Strength and Balance Training for Older Adults πŸ’ͺ 🧠

Strength and balance exercises are vital for maintaining independence and quality of life as we age. These gentle, targeted exercises help prevent falls - one of the most common causes of injury among older Kiwis.

Regular participation in classes like Steady As You Go can provide numerous benefits:

  • Improved stability and coordination for everyday activities
  • Increased muscle strength to support joints and improve posture
  • Better confidence when moving around both at home and in the community
  • Enhanced mobility for maintaining independence
  • Social connection with like-minded people in your community

The exercises taught in these sessions are specifically designed to target the muscle groups and balance systems that tend to weaken as we age. Many participants find that activities like getting out of chairs, climbing stairs, or walking on uneven surfaces become noticeably easier after regular attendance.

Even if you currently use a walking aid or feel unsure about physical activity, these classes provide a safe, supportive environment where exercises can be modified to suit your individual needs and abilities.
