Why Balance & Strength Training Matters for Seniors 🌟

Balance and strength exercises are crucial for maintaining independence and preventing falls as we age. The Steady As You Go programme is based on the internationally recognised Otago Exercise Programme (OEP) developed by the University of Otago.

Regular participation in these classes has been shown to:

  • Reduce the risk of falls and injuries
  • Improve overall strength and stability
  • Enhance confidence in everyday movements
  • Maintain independence for longer
  • Create social connections in a supportive environment

Our sessions are tailored for those who may use walking aids or have reduced strength and balance. The exercises gradually build your confidence and physical ability at a pace that works for you.

Each class provides a comprehensive workout focusing on:

  • Improving lower body strength
  • Enhancing core stability
  • Practicing everyday movements safely
  • Building balance in both seated and standing positions

The social aspect of our classes is just as important as the physical benefits. Many participants form lasting friendships and look forward to the weekly gatherings as much for the company as for the exercise.

Wear comfortable clothing and flat, supportive shoes. Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the session. Rest breaks are encouraged whenever needed.
