Why Gentle Balance & Strength Training Matters 🌱

Balance and strength exercises are vital for maintaining independence and preventing falls as we age. This physiotherapy-based programme, developed by Age Concern Otago, is based on the internationally recognized Otago Exercise Programme that has been scientifically proven to reduce falls and improve quality of life.

Regular participation in gentle balance and strength classes can provide numerous benefits:

  • Reduced risk of falls and related injuries
  • Improved confidence in everyday movements
  • Better posture and body awareness
  • Enhanced mobility for daily activities
  • Increased social connection and mental wellbeing
  • Greater independence and quality of life

These classes are particularly valuable for those who have recently completed physiotherapy, are recovering from surgery, or simply notice that everyday movements have become more challenging.

The supportive group environment offers not just physical benefits but also valuable social connections - something just as important for overall wellbeing. Many participants find that the friendships formed become just as valuable as the physical improvements.

Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes, and don't forget to bring a water bottle. Rest whenever needed - this class is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of fitness level.
