Why Balance Training Matters for Older Kiwis 🧠 💪

Balance and strength exercises are crucial for maintaining independence and preventing falls as we age. This programme is based on the internationally recognised Otago Exercise Programme (OEP), developed right here in New Zealand at the University of Otago.

Research shows that regular participation in structured balance classes like SAYGo can:

  • Reduce your risk of falls by up to 30%
  • Improve confidence in everyday activities
  • Enhance mobility and independence
  • Provide valuable social connections

The Steady As You Go programme has been running since 2003 and has helped thousands of Kiwis maintain their mobility and confidence. University of Otago research confirms participants experience improved strength, better balance, and a significant reduction in falls.

Beyond the physical benefits, these classes create a supportive community where participants form friendships and enjoy regular social interaction—something equally important for wellbeing as we age.

Whether you're using a walking aid, recovering from an injury, or simply want to maintain your independence, this class provides a safe, structured environment to build confidence and capability. The seated options ensure everyone can participate regardless of mobility limitations.

Take the first step toward better balance and join our Mosgiel community of active seniors today! 🌟
