Benefits of Balance & Strength Training for Seniors ๐
Steady As You Go is based on the internationally recognized Otago Exercise Programme (OEP), designed specifically to improve stability and reduce falls risk in older adults.
Research from the University of Otago has shown that regular participation in these classes delivers impressive results:
- Significant improvements in strength and balance after just ten weeks
- Reduced falls risk and fewer actual falls
- Increased body awareness and better posture
- Greater confidence in daily activities
- Valuable social connections and new friendships
The gentle exercises focus on key areas that commonly weaken with age, helping to maintain independence and quality of life. Each session includes a mix of strength training, balance challenges, flexibility work, and coordination exercises.
Many participants report feeling more stable when walking, having an easier time with everyday tasks like getting up from chairs, and generally enjoying increased energy levels. The supportive group environment makes exercise enjoyable rather than intimidating.
Whether you're recovering from surgery, managing ongoing mobility issues, or simply want to maintain good balance as you age, these evidence-based exercises provide a safe, effective way to stay active and prevent falls. ๐
