Benefits of Balance & Strength Training for Seniors πΏ
Regular balance and strength exercises are vital for maintaining independence and preventing falls as we age. The Steady As You Go programme is based on the internationally recognized Otago Exercise Programme developed by the University of Otago.
Research has shown that participants in these classes experience:
- Improved strength and balance within just ten weeks
- Reduced risk of falls and injuries
- Enhanced mobility for everyday activities
- Greater confidence in movement and posture
- Valuable social connections and new friendships
These gentle exercises help maintain muscle mass, which naturally decreases with age. Strong muscles support joints, improve posture, and make everyday activities easier β from climbing stairs to carrying groceries.
Balance training is equally important, as it helps prevent falls by improving your body's ability to respond to movement. The exercises taught in our classes strengthen the muscles around ankles, knees and hips while improving coordination and spatial awareness.
πͺ The social aspect of group exercise shouldn't be underestimated either. Regular attendance not only improves physical health but also provides mental stimulation and emotional wellbeing through community connection.
Whether you're recovering from illness or surgery, or simply want to maintain your mobility as you age, our Steady As You Go classes provide a safe, friendly environment to build strength and confidence at your own pace.
