🌟 Join our "Steady As You Go" class at Fairfield Community Hall, a gentle physiotherapy-based programme designed to improve balance and strength for those with limited mobility.

This supportive 1-hour weekly class includes seated, standing and walking exercises led by trained Peer Leaders. Perfect if you use walking aids, feel unsteady, or are recovering from surgery or injury.

The "Steady As You Go" programme was developed by Margaret Dando QSM and Age Concern Otago, based on the internationally recognised Otago Exercise Programme (OEP) used by physiotherapists worldwide.

Research from the University of Otago shows participants experience:

  • Improved strength and balance within just ten weeks
  • Reduced falls risk and greater stability
  • Enhanced posture and movement awareness
  • Increased confidence in daily activities
  • Valuable social connections and friendships

Each session incorporates strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, and postural exercises, with brain gym activities in a friendly, supportive environment. While designed primarily for over-65s, these classes welcome anyone at risk of falling.

Our structured approach allows you to work at your own pace with seated options available. The class encourages rest when needed and gradually builds confidence through consistent practice.
