Why Bowel Screening is Important for Kiwis

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting New Zealanders, but when caught early, it's also one of the most treatable. šŸ“Š

The National Bowel Screening Programme is a free initiative designed to detect bowel cancer at an early stage when it's easier to treat. For those in the 60-74 age group, regular screening is particularly important as the risk of bowel cancer increases with age.

What happens during bowel screening?

The screening involves a simple, non-invasive test that you can do at home. It checks for tiny amounts of blood in your bowel motion (poo) that may not be visible to the naked eye

Why attend this pop-up?

  • Get answers to questions you might be hesitant to ask elsewhere
  • Learn how the screening process works in a relaxed environment
  • Receive guidance from knowledgeable healthcare professionals
  • Take a proactive step for your health and wellbeing

Ā

Early detection through screening can significantly improve outcomes. By taking part in the National Bowel Screening Programme, you're taking an important step in looking after your hauora (health and wellbeing).

This informal pop-up session is a great opportunity to learn more without the pressure of a formal medical appointment. The Te Tai Tokerau Bowel Screening team understands that discussing bowel health can be uncomfortable for some, which is why they've created this approachable community event. šŸ¤
