The Ancient Sport of Archery in Modern Times

Archery has evolved from its historical roots as a hunting and warfare skill into an engaging recreational activity that combines precision, focus, and outdoor enjoyment. Today's target archery involves shooting arrows at circular targets from various distances, while field archery offers a more dynamic experience through bush courses and 3D targets.

Benefits of Archery:

  • Improves hand-eye coordination
  • Builds upper body strength
  • Enhances mental focus
  • Provides stress relief
  • Develops core stability

As a member of the New Zealand Field Archery Association (NZFAA), the Bay of Islands Archery Club actively participates in national events and hosts competitions with neighbouring clubs in Whangarei and Dargaville. Our bush course offers a unique opportunity to experience archery in a natural setting, simulating hunting conditions while providing a challenging and enjoyable environment for archers of all skill levels.
