Benefits of Aqua Aerobics for Kiwis of All Ages 🏊‍♀️

Aqua aerobics (Aquafit) offers an excellent workout option for Kiwis looking to improve their fitness without stressing their joints. The natural buoyancy of water supports your body weight, reducing impact while providing natural resistance that strengthens muscles.

Water-based exercise is particularly beneficial for:

  • Joint health: The low-impact nature makes it ideal for people with arthritis, recovering from injury, or those who find land-based exercise uncomfortable
  • Cardiovascular fitness: Gets your heart pumping without excessive strain
  • Muscle conditioning: Water provides resistance in all directions, creating a balanced workout
  • Balance and coordination: The unstable environment improves proprioception and stability
  • Mental wellbeing: Being in water can reduce stress and boost your mood

Aquafit classes typically include a warmup, cardio segment, strength exercises, and cooldown stretches. The instructor can suggest modifications to make movements easier or more challenging depending on your ability level.

If you're new to aqua fitness, you'll quickly discover it's far more challenging (and fun!) than it might appear. The resistance of water makes simple movements effective, and you'll likely feel the benefits without the post-exercise soreness that often accompanies land-based workouts.

Bring your togs and a towel, and prepare to get splashing! 💙
