All About Acrylic Painting (Term 2)
In the welcoming atmosphere of Quarry Arts Centre's Scallop Room, the Acrylic Painting (Term 2) workshops offer a relaxed space for local artists to gather, create, and connect. These weekly sessions, running Tuesdays from 21st April to 9th June 2026, run from 10.00am to 1.00pm each day, providing three hours of hands-on painting time. Led by experienced tutor Nelly van der Oord, the program is open to all beginners and advanced artists aged 18 and over, making it a great way for Whangārei residents to build skills while enjoying the company of like-minded community members. 🎨
Each workshop explores acrylic painting combined with mixed media techniques, using materials like collage and texture mediums to unlock creative possibilities. Participants will delve into abstracts and the human form, learning unique tips for layered compositions and personal expression. The structure allows flexibility—attend individual sessions or commit to the full course of eight workshops. With an entry fee of $27.50 per class, it's an affordable option to nurture your artistic side and foster social bonds through shared creativity. This community-focused activity encourages experimentation, helping attendees reduce stress, gain confidence, and form new friendships in a supportive group setting.
To get started, bring your own materials, including watercolour paper (A4/A3), thick drawing paper, acrylic paints (primary colours, black, and white), a basic brush set, pencil, rubber, paint palette or old plate, and a water container. Suitable clothes and any snacks or lunch are recommended, as sessions are three hours long. Art materials starter packs are available for purchase—contact programmes@quarryarts.org for details. Wheelchair access, parking, and accessible facilities ensure everyone can join comfortably. Whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or refining your style, these workshops highlight the joy of local art-making and its role in strengthening community ties. 🌟
