Over the decades, we’ve welcomed aviation legends like Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and Jean Batten, and operated a variety of aircraft suited to our unique conditions. Based in Masterton, our club offers a range of services, from comprehensive flight training for aspiring aviators to exciting introductory flights for those curious about taking to the air. Whether you’re a licensed pilot or a complete beginner, our three training aircraft and expert instruction—available seven days a week, weather permitting—ensure you have the best experience possible.

Situated in the heart of Solway, Masterton, the Wairarapa Aero Club is proud to call the Wellington region home. Our base at Hood Aerodrome provides an ideal setting for flight training and aviation activities, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Wairarapa area. This picturesque region, known for its rolling hills and clear skies, offers perfect conditions for learning to fly or enjoying a scenic introductory flight. Our location not only serves the local community but also attracts aviation enthusiasts from across Wellington and beyond, drawn by our rich history and welcoming atmosphere.

What We Offer

At the Wairarapa Aero Club, we cater to all levels of aviation interest. For those eager to earn their wings, we provide thorough flight training in both general aviation (GA) and microlight aircraft, tailored to suit local conditions. If you’re just testing the waters, our introductory flights, priced at $170 per flight, offer an unforgettable experience in a light aircraft. Beyond training, our club is a hub for social connection, with club rooms at Hood Aerodrome featuring a training room, bar, pool table, swimming pool, and TV. These facilities are the heart of our community events, bringing together aero enthusiasts to share their passion for flying.
