Based in the heart of Richmond, the Waimea Tramping Club is a passionate group of outdoor enthusiasts who have been hitting the trails since 1973. As a dedicated tramping club, we cater to adults and families, offering a range of experiences from leisurely day walks to challenging multi-day tramps. Our club thrives on the camaraderie of our members and the thrill of exploring New Zealand’s incredible landscapes. With trips running every weekend, there’s always an adventure waiting, no matter your skill level. From our base in Richmond, Tasman, we’re incredibly fortunate to have some of the country’s most stunning natural wonders right on our doorstep. Mt Richmond Forest Park is just a stone’s throw away, offering endless tramping opportunities for all abilities. Within an hour or so, you can reach iconic locations like Abel Tasman, Kahurangi, and Nelson Lakes National Parks. For those longer weekends or extended trips, our club ventures further afield to the rugged West Coast, the Canterbury High Country, and Marlborough. Tasman’s central location makes it the perfect hub for exploring the South Island’s diverse terrain with Waimea Tramping Club.

Join Our Community

Getting involved with Waimea Tramping Club is easy and rewarding. We hold regular club meetings at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month (except January) at the Fish & Game Rooms on Champion Road, Richmond. These meetings are open to the public with just a gold coin donation to help cover costs. Expect a rundown of recent tramping trips, previews of upcoming adventures, guest speakers or slide shows, and a chance to chat over tea and biscuits. Social events are also arranged from time to time, adding to the friendly vibe of our club. For those keen to join as members, simply complete two one-day walks with us before signing up. Membership comes with perks like an annual subscription offering discounts on hut passes and gear.
