Our youth-education club is dedicated to supporting young people aged 8-18 in Dunedin's southern communities. As a charitable non-profit organisation, The Straight Up Trust operates under Rock Solid Dunedin to deliver programmes that emphasise youth development and community transformation. These initiatives include youth clubs, sports, camps, small groups, and mentoring, all designed to forge meaningful connections between youth and dedicated mentors. By responding to local needs and culture, the club creates opportunities for positive change through quality, sustained relationships rather than short-term fixes.

Our Approach to Youth Support

The foundation of our work lies in long-term relationships, where youth workers, interns, support staff, and over 30 volunteer leaders walk alongside young people—often from year 6 through to year 13—to witness and nurture enduring growth. This youth-focused strategy extends to families, building trust over time via engaging activities. We adopt a strength-based method, encouraging participants to recognise and expand on their talents, while prioritising resilience in emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural dimensions. Role models play a key role, providing guidance in a safe, non-judgemental environment where youth feel accepted and can explore life values freely.

Community Impact in Otago

Operating from 6 Kettle Park Road, St Clair, Dunedin 9012, our club is deeply rooted in the Otago region, particularly serving South Dunedin and more recently Brockville. This location allows us to address the unique challenges and cultures of these southern areas, promoting stronger communities through targeted youth support programmes. By focusing on holistic development, we help transform lives and neighbourhoods, ensuring every young person has access to opportunities that build confidence and connections.
