Welcome to Taranaki Swiss Club

Dedicated to preserving and celebrating Swiss heritage, the Taranaki Swiss Club is a thriving cultural organisation in New Zealand. Established in 1952, our club aims to conserve and promote the cultural standards of citizens of Swiss descent living in this beautiful country. With a membership of over 350, we provide a welcoming space for social, cultural, and sporting gatherings. Our mission also includes helping new Swiss immigrants settle into the Kiwi way of life, fostering connections and building a strong community through shared traditions and values.

At the heart of our activities are events that bring our members together. From card evenings featuring traditional Swiss jassen to small bore shooting and kegeln (9-pin bowling), there’s always something happening. Our social calendar is packed with events like picnics, fondue nights, anniversary shoots, Christmas shoots, and Swiss National Day celebrations. We also host unique sporting competitions, including Swiss Society events, Schwingen (Swiss wrestling), and the entertaining Cowbell Competition. Our talented musicians and Singing and Entertainment group add a special touch to every occasion, performing for various groups across the region.

Our Location in Taranaki

Based in the small, charming town of Kaponga, the Taranaki Swiss Club is deeply rooted in the Taranaki region. This picturesque area, known for its stunning landscapes and close-knit communities, provides the perfect backdrop for our cultural activities. Kaponga’s rural charm and friendly atmosphere make it an ideal spot for our club gatherings, where members and visitors alike can experience the warmth of Swiss hospitality. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, our clubhouse at Grace Avenue is a hub of activity and connection.

A Vibrant Community

As a cultural club, we pride ourselves on the diversity of our offerings and the active involvement of our members. Our committee of seventeen works tirelessly to organise events that cater to all ages and interests. We’re especially thrilled to see many younger people joining the Taranaki Swiss Club in recent years, bringing fresh energy to our traditions. Our entertainment group not only performs at our events but also delights audiences from New Plymouth to Waverley, showcasing Swiss culture through music and performances.

Joining our club means becoming part of a family that values heritage and togetherness. Whether you’re of Swiss descent or simply curious about our culture, we invite you to participate in one of our many functions. From sporting challenges to hearty Swiss meals served at our clubhouse, every event is an opportunity to connect and celebrate. The Taranaki Swiss Club is more than just a cultural organisation—it’s a place where memories are made, friendships are forged, and traditions are kept alive in the heart of Taranaki.
