Welcome to Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling Club
A cornerstone of competitive cycling in New Zealand, Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling Club (PNP) has been fostering talent and passion for the sport since 1926. As one of the oldest cycling clubs in the country, we pride ourselves on providing opportunities for riders of all levels, from beginners just starting out to seasoned athletes aged 70 and over. Affiliated with Cycling NZ and Mountain Bike NZ, our club offers a diverse range of activities, including road and track racing from November to March, with training sessions on weekday evenings. In spring, we host an exhilarating Mountain Bike series on some of the best trails in the nation. At PNP, we’re committed to making cycling accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Our junior road bunch rides are a fantastic way for kids and parents new to the sport to get involved, with regular weekend sessions that include skills training in car parks and defensive cycling techniques on the road. In winter, we meet on Sundays at 8:30am at Evans Bay Marina, while summer rides shift to Saturdays at 8:00am. Riders gain experience through progressive challenges and fun ‘play’ bike activities. For competitive spirits, our track and road races are open to all—try up to two races before joining as a member to continue. Mountain bike enthusiasts can participate in as many races as they like without membership, though joining offers discounted entries and exclusive updates.Membership Benefits and How to Join
Becoming a member of our Wellington cycling club unlocks a host of benefits, including discounted race entries for members and juniors, voting rights at the Annual General Meeting, and the chance to serve on the committee. After two road or track races in a year, membership is required to keep racing, ensuring a committed and supportive community.
