A History of Passionate Flying
The origins of Otamatea Aero Club trace back to 1964, when a group of aviation enthusiasts formed a syndicate to bring their shared vision to life. This initial investment of 100 pounds per member laid the foundation for what would become a thriving hub for microlight flying and aero club gatherings. By 1965, the demand had grown sufficiently to officially open Ruawai Airfield, marking a milestone in local aviation history. The club's incorporation in 1967 ensured its longevity as a structured society, committed to promoting safe and enjoyable flying experiences.
