As a dedicated surf lifesaving club, our mission is to protect lives at Tahanunui Beach through vigilant patrols and to serve the wider Tasman Bay area with our skilled Search and Rescue Squad. Our commitment extends beyond emergency response; we provide comprehensive training programmes for various age groups, fostering skills in sea swims and kayak races. Our club embodies the spirit of teamwork, preparedness, and care for our coastal environment.
In the heart of Stepneyville, Nelson, our club is perfectly positioned to serve both locals and visitors who flock to the stunning beaches of this vibrant region. Nelson is renowned for its picturesque coastline and active outdoor lifestyle, making our role in ensuring beach safety all the more vital. Whether you're enjoying a summer day at Tahanunui Beach or exploring the wider Tasman Bay, you can rest assured that our trained lifesavers are on duty during the patrol season, from the first Sunday in December to the last Sunday in March. On Saturdays from Christmas to the end of January, we're on the beach from 1 pm to 5 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays, you’ll find us from 10 am to 5 pm, ready to assist.
Our Services and Patrol Schedule
Beach safety is at the core of what we do at Nelson Surf Life Saving Club. Our patrols at Tahanunui Beach are a lifeline for swimmers and beachgoers, ensuring a secure environment during the busy summer months. Our patrol schedule is designed to cover peak times, so you can enjoy the sun and surf with peace of mind. We’re on duty every Sunday and public holiday from 10 am to 5 pm during the season, with additional Saturday patrols from Christmas through January between 1 pm and 5 pm. Our presence helps prevent incidents and provides immediate response when needed.
