Take flight with the Nelson Model Aero Club, a vibrant community of aero modelling enthusiasts dedicated to the art and thrill of model aircraft. Based in the heart of Nelson, our club caters to a wide range of interests within this fascinating hobby. Whether you're into free flight, control line, gliding, helicopters, jets, or indoor flying with micro-sized models, there’s a place for you here. Our members primarily focus on building and flying sport and scale radio-controlled aircraft, as well as gliders, with some even adapting their planes for water take-offs using floats.

Where can you find us? Our dedicated flying site is located at the Wakapuaka sand flats, just off State Highway 6, roughly 9.5 km north of the roundabout opposite the Nelson Trafalgar Centre. This scenic spot in the Nelson region offers the perfect backdrop for our club days, held every Sunday and Wednesday morning, weather permitting. Visitors are welcome to join us at the flying site—simply walk to the grassed area where models are prepared, keeping to the right-hand track for safety. The Nelson Model Aero Club is eager to meet new faces and share our passion for model aircraft.
