About Matamata Gymnastics Club
Matamata Gymnastics Club is a welcoming, non-competitive sports club dedicated to coaching children in gymnastics, emphasising balance, poise, and fun. We serve our local community by providing sessions for ages from preschoolers to 15 years, all run by volunteer coaches and a committed committee. Our goal is simple: ensure every gymnast enjoys themselves in a safe setting while developing essential functional skills through gymnastics. Club nights begin with a warm-up session, after which children are divided into groups based on similar abilities. Everyone works towards badge and incentive awards aligned with the Gymnastics NZ curriculum. Our volunteer coaches, who balance work, families, and club involvement, create an encouraging atmosphere. Many have raised their own children through the club, and now those young alumni are stepping up to coach too. We value community spirit and invite anyone keen to contribute—whether through setup, coaching, committee work, fundraising, or compliance support—to connect with our friendly team.
Our Sessions and Schedule
Each Wednesday night during school terms, we host gymnastics at Headon Stadium in Matamata. The schedule includes preschool classes from 4:00 pm to 4:50 pm, Gym for All for younger kids and tumbling group from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Gym for All for older kids from 6:10 pm to 7:10 pm. These sessions are instructed by volunteering parents, fostering a family-oriented vibe. We prioritise safety and fun, with all participants needing to register and pay in advance to cover essentials like Gymnastics NZ affiliation fees, venue hire, insurance, and health and safety measures. Our club is hugely popular, so spots fill quickly—priority goes to those registered and paid first. For those new to us, we offer one trial lesson at a small cost, but gymnasts must register beforehand and notify the club it's a trial. Reading our term newsletters is essential before signing up, as they detail how the club operates, rules, and pricing shown at registration time.
