At the Masterton Soaring Club, members enjoy the exhilaration of advanced gliding tailored to a range of skill levels, from seasoned private owners to beginners keen to learn about wave flying. Our small, dedicated community provides access to high-quality aero towing using a reliable Pawnee aircraft, with experienced tow pilots available seven days a week by arrangement. This setup ensures smooth launches and safe flights, allowing everyone to focus on the joy of soaring. We now own a Grob Twin II (ZK-GNP), enhancing our fleet for thermal, convergence, and wave conditions. Joining means gaining hands-on opportunities in a supportive environment, where you can build confidence in gliding techniques while connecting with fellow enthusiasts. Whether you're a novice discovering the basics or an owner refining advanced skills, our club delivers rewarding experiences that foster a passion for unpowered flight.

About the Venue

Hood Aerodrome in Solway, Masterton, serves as the heart of our operations, offering an ideal setting for gliding in the Wairarapa region of Wellington. This area has long been recognised for its favourable flying conditions, with consistent wave and thermal/convergence opportunities that attract pilots from across New Zealand. The club's presence at 80 Manaia Road ties directly into the region's aviation heritage, where open landscapes and weather patterns have supported soaring activities for enthusiasts. Our location enhances every flight, providing stunning views and reliable winds that make each session memorable.
