For 50 years, we’ve been bringing together kayaking enthusiasts of all skill levels to tackle the rapids and enjoy the thrill of the river. Our Home in Wellington

Headquartered in Birchville, Upper Hutt, our club is perfectly positioned to explore some of the most stunning rivers in the Wellington area. We regularly organise trips on local waterways such as Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River, including both the Hutt Gorge and Birchville sections, as well as the Whakatīkei River, Akatarawa River, and Ōtaki River. Beyond our immediate surroundings, we venture across the North Island to paddle hydro-controlled river releases and, during the summer holidays, head to the South Island for adventures in the Buller region and along the rugged West Coast rivers. Wellington's diverse landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for our kayaking expeditions.

What We Offer

At Hutt Valley Canoe Club, we’re passionate about getting people on the water. Our regular river trips cater to a range of abilities, ensuring everyone from beginners to experts can enjoy the rush of whitewater paddling. This year, we’re excited to trial a new setup for pool nights at Stokes Valley Pool on select Sunday evenings in May, June, and July from 7.40 to 8.40pm. Membership Options

Joining our club is simple and affordable, with membership options to suit everyone. Students can sign up for just $40, individuals for $60, and families for $80. Becoming a member means gaining access to our regular paddling trips, pool sessions, and a tight-knit community of kayaking lovers in Wellington. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the sport, meet like-minded adventurers, and explore the region’s incredible rivers.
